I love classic movies and movie stars, so I started this blog to have a place to talk about them. I think Cary Grant is the greatest, most talented, most charismatic star the screen has ever known, and Audrey Hepburn is the loveliest, sweetest and most elegant.
I also adore, in no particular order: Irene Dunne, Clark Gable, Deborah Kerr, Montgomery Clift, Myrna Loy, William Powell, Barbara Stanwyck, William Holden, Jean Arthur, Joel McCrea, Gregory Peck, Ingrid Bergman, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Gary Cooper, Katharine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy, James Stewart, Grace Kelly, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Rock Hudson, Doris Day, Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, Jack Lemmon, Cyd Charisse, Rossano Brazzi, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Rosalind Russell, Claudette Colbert, Claude Rains and Bette Davis.
My favorite directors are George Cukor, Alfred Hitchcock, Howard Hawks, George Stevens and Stanley Donen.
This very minute my favorite movie is The More the Merrier, but ask me again tomorrow. There are too many out there to love, and thank heavens for that! And for TCM.
The blog’s name comes from an ad-libbed line in An Affair to Remember. Grant’s character, Nicky Ferrante, says it when bidding his sweet old grandmother goodbye. In real life Cary Grant signed many of his personal letters by wishing his friends “happy thoughts.” I think it’s a lovely sentiment.
Happy thoughts (and happy reading),
