About

I love classic movies and movie stars, so I started this blog to have a place to talk about them.

I adore, in no particular order:  Irene Dunne, Clark Gable, Deborah Kerr, Montgomery Clift, Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, Myrna Loy, William Powell, Barbara Stanwyck, William Holden, Jean Arthur, Joel McCrea, Gregory Peck, Ingrid Bergman, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Gary Cooper, Katharine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy, James Stewart, Grace Kelly, Danny Kaye, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Rock Hudson, Doris Day, Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, Jack Lemmon, Cyd Charisse, Rossano Brazzi, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Rosalind Russell, Gene Tierney, Dana Andrews, Claudette Colbert, Kay Francis, Claude Rains, and Bette Davis.

My favorite directors are George Cukor, Alfred Hitchcock, Howard Hawks, George Stevens and Stanley Donen.

This very minute my favorite movie is The More the Merrier, but ask me again tomorrow.  There are too many out there to love, and thank heavens for that!  And for TCM.

The blog’s name comes from an ad-libbed line in An Affair to Remember.  Grant’s character, Nicky Ferrante, says it when bidding his sweet old grandmother goodbye.  In real life Cary Grant signed many of his personal letters by wishing his friends “happy thoughts.”  I think it’s a lovely sentiment.

Happy thoughts (and happy reading),

MC

  1. Wow…………you have listed or like just about every classic and not so well knwn movies as I do….Cary Grant with me is the top.

  2. I love reading your comments on Cary Grant, its like reading my own thoughts!
I’m also a big fan of movie classics, Grant being my favourite actor with the irresistible charm he’s radiating, and Ingrid Bergman my absolute top star.
Now I’ll get even more inspiration on what movies to watch, tanks to your great blog!

  3. Excellent taste in movies! I adore Cary Grant too, but also have a big crush on Gregory Peck. Another actress who made some really, really great campy B movies is Carmen Miranda. If you haven’t seen some of her movies, you’re missing a real treat. So fun to watch! Thanks for four blog–it’s great!

  4. Hi im 16years old and I LOVE LOVE YOUR BLOG. Your comments on POWELL! is like you were reading my mind. But I need your help long ago when i first gained love and respect for classical movies i saw this one movie that started it all for me i LOVED IT. It was a married couple they werent happy and they couldnt get a divorce beacause it was unorthdox and they both started an affair with another unhappy married couple and they never find out that the other person is cheating but they rekindle and at the end both couple are friends and happy. Since you watch so many old hollywood movies can you help me identify this one i really want to watch it again. <3

    • Hi! Thanks for your comment. I’m so glad you like the blog! I don’t think I know the movie you described, unfortunately. I hope you’re able to track it down eventually! :)

    • Hi Cameron! The More the Merrier is perfect, isn’t it? So romantic and funny. Thanks for stopping by and saying hello. I really enjoy your blog, even if I don’t comment as often as I should! :)
